Leaf Walk

This week we are learning about leaves.  Fortunately we have been blessed with some fabulous weather for the week.  It's no fun collecting soggy leaves!  Today we took a leaf walk.

There is something so satisfying about the crunch of fall leaves under your feet.  Why is that?  Fortunately right around our preschool there are many different types of trees.  So we were able to find many different colors and shapes of leaves.

I got this idea from Family Fun Magazine to make tape bracelets for the kiddos.  Just some packing tape looped around their arm sticky side out.  It was great for saving small items that they found, like this helicopter (seed) and pine needle.  One of my kiddos used her bracelet to stick her plastic bag to, instead of holding it.  Ha!  It worked great until it started to get heavy with leaves and pine cones.

 Such beautiful fall leaves ...

We talked a bit about the bark on the different trees.  We liked how this tree had both rough and smooth bark.

Perhaps we'll do some bark rubbings this week too.

I think trees are such fascinating things to learn about, so much variety but they basically all work the same.
