Vv Week

Hello! and Welcome to our vivacious Vv week!

Last week I asked the kiddos which letter they would like to do this week.  They came up with many suggestions, but stuck with Vv, because they wanted to do Valentine cookies and volcanoes.  Ha!  That can be arranged!!

Journal Time - Valentines - I dug in the back of the closet to find my Valentine box so we could have Valentines for our journals today.

Mini Valentine Boxes - We decorated our mini boxes and on Wednesday we'll make mini Valentines to go inside!
These are just Jello and pudding boxes painted white.  I cut a slit in the top for the Valentines to slide into.

Science - Making Valentine Cookies - The kiddos did a wonderful job of making cookie dough.  They wanted to dye it, so we turned it purple.  Ha!
We rolled them out and cut heart cookies of various sizes.
It was really hard not to eat all the cookies, but we want to save them for Wednesday when we'll decorate them!  We did taste one mini cookie each though.  Yum!

Glowing Shirt - A kiddo wore a wonderful glowing Halloween shirt today.  The kiddos squished into the cupboard under the stairs (my Harry Potter closet) to see how it glowed!

Circle Time - Valentines - We made heart hands and then we practiced drawing hearts (a V with a M on top).

Mini Valentines - It's time to make our mini valentines to fit in our mini valentine boxes.  Hope you enjoy all the love notes they created for you!
The kiddos LOVED putting the valentines in and then dumping them out and then putting them back in again ...

Vacuuming - Because, ya know...it starts with Vv and the preschool can always use a bit of vacuuming.

Valentine Cookie Frosting - Oh!  The moment we've been waiting for!!!

Push Ups - These guys had finished their art project and were burning off some energy while they waited for their friends to finish so we could go outside.  Ha!

Reading - Toddlers - I LOVE reading with these little guys!

Pocket of Cookies - Toddlers - This kiddo found he had a pocket in his shirt!  He promptly filled it with play cookies.

Visitor - We had a kiddo's sibling visit our class today.  The school age kids had no school today!  She was a great helper.

Journal Time - V Volcano! -  The kiddos found a V to turn into a volcano and a little pack of volcano pop rocks to try.  They LOVED the pop rocks, well, most of the kiddos did.

Mini Egg Carton Volcanoes - I simply set out the supplies and the kiddos created.  I love that each island of volcanoes came out different.

Science - Erupting Volcanoes - This is what we have been waiting for all week long (well, after the valentine cookies).  Of course baking soda and vinegar.  But we also left most of the water in the bottles and added a squirt of dish soap (bubbly) and a squirt of red food coloring and then let the kiddos experiment...

Learning Station - Count and Match

Working on our counting and numeral recognition skills.  We were working between 11 and 25 today.  The teens seem to trick up most kiddos so this was good one on one practice with me.  The younger kiddos worked between 1 and 10.
I got this great idea on this blog:  Here!

Learning Station - Valentine Heart Lacing

Today we made a lovely Valentine swag to hang up and decorate your home with.  Ha!  It took hand eye coordination to lace these little hearts, and these kiddos did great!

Qq Week

Welcome to the Qq part of the week!  How quaint!

Circle Time - Slooooow and Quick! - Ha!  The kiddos got a kick out of this.  I had them walk as slowly as they could to the green carpet, then come back as quickly as they could.

Free Play - I have a kiddo who LOVES playing Twister, she just needed a bit of help with her left and right ...

Queen's Scepter - We made these by putting a Styrofoam ball on a skewer then covering it with foil so it looked more fancy.  We pulled out buttons, jewels and ribbons to add on.
Saw this nice simple idea on this blog:  Here!

Snack - Quesadillas - Oh yum!

Dr. Kit And Pooh Bear - Oh dear!  Pooh was really sick today.  It took 4 toddler doctors to help him feel better.  Shwoo!

Journal Time - Quarter Rubbing - Taping a quarter onto a piece of cardstock paper really helped the kiddos keep the quarter still while rubbing.

Darth Vadar Mask - Found this fabulous mask in the Target dollar bin for $3!!  Wahoo!

Card Making - I love it when the kiddos want to make a card for a family member!  It's always great to spread the love!

Quilt Squares - Quilts come in so many fabulous colors and designs.  We created a few of our own fabulous quilt squares using oil pastels.

I found simple quilt squares online.  I got the idea for this project at this blog:  Here!

Learning Station - Quarter Toss

After I showed each kiddo how to flip a quarter, they worked on flipping quarters into the various bowls or cups on the circle time rug.  It was quite fun to watch and to participate.  The kiddos did better at hitting the mark than Ms. Sara did!

Learning Station - Q-Tip Letter Painting

The kiddos wrote the letters of the alphabet in paint with a Q-tip.  Silly Ms. Sara!  A Q-tip?!?!
The Youngsters (3 year olds) worked on their names.

Pirate Day - Arrgh!!

Tuesday (September 19th) is "National Talk Like a Pirate Day"!  In celebration of that we had our pirate day today!

Arrgh! - Pirates - In Target's birthday party aisle, they have wonderful pirate eye patches.  The kids love them and they are durable and inexpensive enough to send each kiddo home with one.

Pirate Circle Time - This was a bit silly!  The kiddos squished into our pirate "ship" to do our circle time.  Ahoy matey!

Journal Time - Oh no!  Pirates stole our journals!!!  Fortunately they left us each a map to follow...

We found our journals in some crazy places!  Silly pirates!

Free Play - Ms. Sara made a pirate play mat, complete with an island to bury treasure on and sharks to evade!  Eeek!

I want to add a bit more to it.  Maybe a school of fish or a sea turtle.  Another smaller island and maybe some seashells... it's a work in progress.  I've also got to figure out the palm trees.
These poor pirates were doomed!

Treasure Boxes - The kiddos decorated their boxes in preparation for our treasure hunt. (Just a Dial soap box)

Snack - Pancake Time - We were going to make pancakes on Friday, but the power went out.  So we made them today.  We made purple pancakes!!
We made some eye patch sized, some with chocolate chips in them and some just normal.

Walk The Plank - Arrgh!  Watch out for the sharks!

Treasure Hunt - I took the kiddos on a hunt all around the backyard.  And we found it!  The treasure chest!
They were so excited!

Inside they found gold and goldfish!

Binoculars - I did binoculars instead of  spy glasses this year because I had a plethora of tp rolls saved up through the summer.  Ha!

Toddlers - Treasure Hunt - In plain sight, ha!  But they were pretty excited to find their GOLDfish!

Science - Exploding Treasure Chests -
Ok, more like fizzing.  But still super cool!  Ms. Sara made baking soda ice cubes (with jewels frozen inside).  The kiddos used eye droppers and vinegar to free their pirate treasure!

We had a bucket to clean off the jewels before we put them in our treasure box.

This cutie pie was DONE with the pipette and vinegar.  He was trying a new method.  Ha!

This fabulous idea came from these blogs: Here! and also Here!
