Oo Week

Oh what a wonderful Oo week we are going to have!

Oo Clothing - Orange...

We decided these poka-dots were really colored in Oos.  Ha!

Circle Time - Octopus - We chatted a bit about octopuses and I showed them some fabulous pictures from National Geographic.  This picture shows a mamma octopus with her eggs.

Dyed Oatmeal - The kiddos quite enjoyed playing with this oatmeal today.  It got EVERYWHERE, but fortunately it vacuums up nicely.
At the end of class we got to take turns vacuuming up all the oatmeal.

Snack - Oo - Oranges & olives.  Orange:  carrots & cheez-its and shape:  bagels.

Science - Octopus - We watched lots of videos of octopus antics.  That was pretty fun to see the way they move, camouflage, ink, get out of small things etc.

We also learned some octopus facts, such as:  they have 3 hearts, blue blood, no bones, a beak, 200-300 suckers on each arm, each sucker can move independently and it tastes!

We love the coconut octopus because of the way he carries the coconut shells with him as he "runs" along the ocean floor.

Mini Personal Ocean - Octopus - The kiddos put together their ocean...
We added a beautiful octopus and then we used some of our dyed oatmeal as the sand on the ocean floor.  We should have glued a few goldfish crackers on too!  Drat!
I saw this great idea on this blog:  Here!

Oo Clothing - Oh so fun to hunt out the letter Oo!  We found 2 Oo's on the Ninjago shirt and 3 Oo's on the Captain America shirt!

Oo Painting - We used lids of all sizes to stamp the letter Oo!
I saw this nice, easy idea on this blog:  Here!

Science - Oatmeal Cookies - Oh yum!  Of course we added chocolate chips!

Pine Cone Owls - So cute!  Ha!  Since it's been raining for a while, all the pine cones in the yard are closed up.  So our owls are a little tightly wound.  The kiddos added cotton fluff for feathers.
Here are the preschooler's owls.  They look more fluff than pine cone.  Ha!
This kiddo wanted to add wings, so we pulled out some craft foam...

Egg Carton Stuffing - Toddlers - These kiddos were bummed that the egg cartons were no longer filled with Easter eggs, so I pulled out some cotton balls for them to stuff in.

Oo Clothing - Oh so fabulous!  Letter Oo, ovals, orange ...  This has been a fun week for clothing.  Bb was good too.

Finger Puppets - One of the kiddos who was absent last week when we made our finger puppet bats, was making hers today.  Other kiddos asked if they could make puppets with the extra glove fingers...Sure!  So they worked with craft foam to create some fun puppets.

Origami - Oh!  We had to do some paper folding during Oo week!

Learning Station - Oatmeal Number Search

The kiddos searched for all their numbers (1-20), then put them in order.  We used the tail end of the dyed oatmeal from our sensory bin.

Learning Station - Obstacle Course Abc's

The kiddos wound their way through this creative obstacle course, following the tape to get to the letters.  Once they came to the letters, they grabbed one and kept going until they got to the puzzle and placed it in.  Then they went around again and again and ...!

Learning Station - Oo Writing

The kiddos were challenged to write as many Oos in this big O that they could...
This kiddo was ambitious, although his Oos got larger and larger...
I saw this simple, but fun idea on this blog:  Here!

Bb Week

It's going to be a Bodacious Bb week!

Bb Clothes -  Blue jacket, birds, blue boots, brown sandles, blue and black shirts, bananas, bun ...

Silly Ms. Sara - Wore a bun in my hair and my banana minion shirt!

Bugs - This was our first day to spot a rolley-polley!  They came out just for Bb week!  We also spied an ant or two.

Science - Bouncy Balls - Today we became mad scientists and made our very own bouncy balls!  So cool!
I saw this idea on this blog:  Here!   They were nice and bouncy!  Oh so fun!

Binoculars - Painting - The kiddos were excited to add water color paints to their binoculars from the learning station.

Braceletes - A great Bb thing.

Brillo Blocks - A hit for Bb week.

Beaded Bell Bracelets - These were so fun.  The kiddos jingled everywhere they went.
Boxes - It's always fun when a kiddo brings in boxes. It is especially fun when they bring boxes on Bb week and it's a Lego box!  This kiddo filled the box with some toys and was taping it shut.
My older boys LOVE to cut boxes into airplanes...

Bows! -  Both Elise and Edith had bows in their hair!  Another great Bb
word!
We also found these fun Bb clothing items...  Belle costume and a bug dress!

Baseball and a bunny boot!

Science - Bread in a Bag - Part 1 - We started our bread and then let it rest ...

Part 2 - We came back upstairs to add some more ingredients to our bread and to knead it.  Our yeast was bubbling up nicely.
Kneading (fold and squish and fold and ...) ....  Then we shaped and let them rise for a bit...

Science - Butter Making - Shake, shake, shake ...  Our bread was almost done, but our butter wasn't yet.  So I set some energetic souls on it.  We had butter in no time.

Part 3 -  Eating it!  Oh Yum!

Here are all our loaves...

Here is the link for this recipe:  Here!

Baymax - This older class does love 'Big Hero 6' so we needed to make our own Baymax.  I saw this cute idea on this blog:  Here!
This is a lady Baymax, love the eyelashes.
This one too.  The girls also asked to add glitter when they painted their plate red.

Mini Baymax - We also made a few minis.  Then some kiddos wanted an army (or a family) of Baymax so we pulled out our fabulous bucket of milk lids (thank you for saving these) and set to work.  Sadly we only had a few white ones.

Free Play - The boys pulled out the creation bin today and discovered a wealth of tp and paper towel rolls.  They decided to make tunnel runs for the matchbox cars to go down the stairs.

Clothes Pin Butterflies - An oldie but a goodie.  I love making these.  I found teeny clothes pins too, so a few kiddos made mini butterflies as well.

Letter Bingo - Wahoo!  I dug through the snack bin and found some treats from previous weeks and we were off!  After a few rounds of regular bingo, we played blackout bingo!
