A week on the ocean...

Corn Syrup Aquariums (or ocean) - This is a sticky, googey art project which of course makes it super fun.  I dyed corn syrup blue, then pulled out a bunch of crackers, noodles, rice etc. for the kiddos to create their aquarium with.

Bowl Crabs - These are a two day project.  Today we glued red tissue paper all over the body of our crabs.  Tomorrow we'll put them all together.

Painting Shells - The kiddos were loving the alphabet shells, so I pulled out my extra shells for them to paint with water colors.  David told us about the clams that lived inside our shells and how the shells use to hook together to close.  Thanks David!

Envelope Shark - I saw this great shark craft on a blog and had to try it out!  We needed to make some fish or somethings to put into his mouth and down into his stomach, but we were running out of time.  Perhaps tomorrow.
We cut some fish the next day for our sharks to munch.

Octopus Videos -  Today we were focusing on the octopus.  These are such amazing creatures, I wanted the kiddos to see them in action.  So I hunted out a few videos on youtube to show the kiddos.  Here are the links:

The kiddo's favorite - An octopus playing with a coconut shell:  Shell Video
An octopus showing off it's suckers:  Suckers
An octopus camouflaging:  Camouflage

The kiddos slinked down the stairs to the preschool after having watched the videos.

Shark Mouth - What wonders can unfold with a simple paper plate...

Dyed Rice Sea Stars - These beauties will need to dry overnight.  The kiddos loved the texture of the rice and all the colors ... and the joy of squeezing copious amounts of glue.  Ha.  I got the foam stars on super clearance after Hanukkah.

Squirt Bottles - It is so lovely and warm outside, I pulled out the squirt bottles for the kiddos to enjoy.  They wanted me to dye the water (like we did with the snow - ha).

Bowl Crab - Day 2 - With our crab bodies all dry, we added legs, claws and eyes today.  Not quite sure how these claws ended up like antlers, ha!

Oyster - I had to show the kiddos what a pearl was so they would understand the point of the craft.  Ha!  Pink dessert plate and a cotton ball!

Tp Octopus - Super simple.  The kiddos painted, glued eyes on, some drew the suckers on the tentacles and other curled the tentacle.
