A Week with Elephant and Piggie!

Welcome back from spring break!  This week we are learning about friends with the Elephant and Piggie books.

Science - Growing Celery - I meant to do this activity last week, so we slipped it in this morning.  We cut the bottom off our celery, placed it in water.  We reviewed what plants need to grow (water, sun, and love).  Now we just wait!  We also tasted celery, none of us are very fond of it.

Nest on our Heads - In one of our favorite Elephant and Piggie books, birds make a nest on Gerald's (the elephant) head.  It's pretty silly.  So we of course needed to create a nest so we could try it out.

For the younger kiddos, I made these little chicks for them to put in their eggs.

Free Play -  The kiddos did a lot of traveling today, either by airplane or by snow dogs.  They also enjoyed finding their locations and destinations on the globe.

Worm House - Checking - We saw lots of tunnels, then one of the worms surprised us and came up top to say hello.

Tp Tube Elephant and Piggies -

Snow Surprise! - The kiddos made tracks in the yard and we pulled out the shovels.

Paper Plate Elephant (Gerald) and Piggies - While the cookies were baking, we made these cute friends.  The kiddos could cut out their own pieces, draw instead, or have Ms. Sara cut pieces.
I got paper plates from the dollar store.

Snake Catch - In this book, Gerald and Piggie meet a new friend, who wants to play catch with them, but he has no arms.  So they try a few different things...
Our kiddos wanted to try out catching like a snake, so we gave it a try!  Ha!  We tossed balls at our "snake", it worked about as well as it did in the book.  Ha!  The kiddos loved trying it though.

Fancy, Pool, Costume Party! -  Piggie gets invited to a party and Gerald thinks it might be a fancy party, then maybe a pool party too, and finally it becomes a fancy, pool, costume party.  Ha!
The kiddos drew something to represent each part of the party.  Then we got silly and pulled out all the dress ups...
