Learning Station - Lucky Charms Graphing

The kiddos sorted out their cereal, then graphed their marshmallows.  Once done they counted each shape and wrote the number below.  We also talked about which shape they had the most of, if they had any shapes that were the same number etc...

Learning Station - Chopstick Challenge

The kiddos worked on moving the foam shapes to another bowl.  They tried various tactics, their favorite was to stab the chopstick into the hole of the craft foam.  Ha.
As the kiddos worked, we talked about the colors and shapes they were picking up.  Great fine motor work.

Learning Station - Foam Shapes - Toddlers

The kiddos moved the foam shapes from the bowl into the divided container.  They loved working the tongs and all the colors and shapes.  We chatted about those and one kiddo even started singing "twinkle, twinkle little star."

Learning Station - Yarn Shapes

I challenged the kiddos to each make 3 shapes with yarn and tape them to their paper.  We ended up with some traditional shapes and some creative shapes:  candy cane, jelly bean and a silly nonsensical shape.

Learning Station - Shape Witch

The kiddos used shapes to create a witch.  I had the older kiddos create their own face.  The younger ones, I think I'll provide the shapes to make a face.

This kiddo cut the hair thinner.  And this kiddo snipped their hair to bits.  It's all good.

Learning Station - Shape Bats

This was an easy-peasy station today.  The kiddos just needed to put together the shapes to create a bat.  Everyone recognized the triangles, but some of the kiddos didn't know about an oval.
This kiddos said her bat had its wing over its face.  Ha!

Learning Station - Math with Shapes

Today we were working on tessellations (a pattern of shapes that fit together with no gaps or overlaps).  I cut squares, rectangles and triangles for the kiddos to use to create their tessellation.

Learning Station - Egg Carton Pattern Making

The kiddos followed the pattern maps.  Sometimes the maps had blanks and the kiddos had to finish the pattern.  Sometimes the maps just gave a color or shape and other times the map told the whole pattern to match.  I worked with the kiddos to make sure they were understanding the concept of pattern making and to check them on their colors and shapes.

Learning Station - Pattern Making

For our learning station today the kiddos created their own patterns with shapes.

I punched the shapes from scrapbooking scraps.  We worked on patterns with shapes, but we also could have easily done patterns with colors as well.

Learning Station - Magnetic geo tiles

These fabulous magnetic geo tiles were recently donated to me by a friend.  They became one of our learning stations this week.  The kiddos enjoyed making pictures and creations.  In the photo below, the four year old made a sunshine and snow at the bottom of the frame.  He told me that the snow is melting and going away because of the sun.  Yeppers!  The other creation in the bottom left corner was created by another four.  He said it was a house with wings.  Ha.  Then i think it turned into a bug.
