Learning Station - Name Road

The kiddos found all the letters of their name, then put them on the road. (I created a tape road around the preschool.)  Then they drove trucks around to gather them and  spell their names out again.

Preschoolers:  The kiddos flipped over a card, counted out that many cars and then added their cars with their friend's.

Learning Station - Word Parking Lot

The kiddos read a word, found its match in the parking lot, then drove a car in and parked it there.  Wonderful review for our word families.

We also love to do this activity using letters instead of words.

Learning Station - Abc Parking Lot

The kiddos chose a letter from the puzzle, then drove a car through the parking lot looking for that letter on a parking stall.  Parked it and started again!

This learning station is a class favorite and I thought it would be a wonderful way to review letter names and sounds today.  The kiddos draw a letter out of the bag, announce its name and the sound it makes.  Next they pick a car and drive it into the parking lot looking for the stall with that letter on it, then park it.

Some More With Things That GO!

Next we focused on cars and  trucks and trains in our learning about things that go!

Transportation Graph - "I have been in a..." - The kiddos and I graphed which modes of transportation we have been on.

Little Van Goes - My hubby still has this from his childhood, so I pulled it out for the kiddos to work with this week.  They have loved it!

 

Tp Racers - The kiddos painted tp rolls and I put on the wheels.  They enjoyed racing these around.  I think next time I should cut a hole in the top so a fisher price person could fit inside.

Egg Carton Trains - In theory the kiddos were to lace the egg carton cups onto a pipe cleaner and then we were to create an engine for their train, complete with smoke (cotton balls) coming out of the smoke stack.  Ha ha, well, things didn't go quite as planned.  But the kiddos had fun.

Cars and Crayons - I have some old perforated paper that worked great for this idea.  I tore off several connected sheets of paper for each kiddo and set out the crayons and we got to work designing our own roads to drive on.  We interconnected our finished roads so we could drive on each others.

 I suggested to the kiddos to add trees and buildings or houses to their roads.  One of the kiddos added our preschool and then as classmates were driving over to pick up their child from preschool, she drew the kiddos in her preschool.  Ha!

Cereal Box Ramp -  Such a great easy thing to create.  The kiddos loved it all week long.

 

Snack - Edible Cars - The older kiddos got to create their own cars, I made them for the younger kiddos.  We even had a Cheez-it road.

 Once the kiddos had eaten their cars, they enjoyed eating the rest of their snack off of their toothpicks.  Ha.

The Great Rolling Experiment - We decided to test a few things around the classroom to see what would roll on a ramp and what would not. Before we released each item, we made a prediction:  would it roll or stick? 

 We quickly realized that our ramp was too steep and that everything either rolled or slid down.  So we moved our ramp a bit lower and tried again... 

 With the lowered ramp we ended up with 3 categories:  Roll, slide, and stick!

 Here are our three piles after our experiment.

Car Blowers - We wanted to see if we could blow a car across the table....we found we could with a bit of help.

 Party blowers are very great at pushing/blowing cars!

Airplane Food - The kiddos found a stack of styrafoam egg cartons that a mom had brought in and decided to use them as food trays on their airplane.  Ha!  One of the kiddos, using an empty spice container, was offering everyone pepper for their food.

Transportation Sort - The kiddos and I decided on three main categories:  sky, water, and the road.  Then the kiddos sorted their stickers accordingly.  I found these stickers at the dollar store.

Video:  Trashy Town - This is a cute book about a trash man's day at work.  I don't have the book, but I do have the video.  So first we watched it... 

  

Then we made our own trash trucks.

Learning Station - Dump Truck Count

Today we practiced counting.  The kiddos rolled a die, counted the dots and then put that many dominoes into our dump truck.  Once the truck was full, they got to dump it out and if they wanted they could do it all again.

Car Mat

This car mat is one of the staples of the preschool.  It gets pulled out every day.  Along with it I have a large bin of cars.  I found this mat many years ago at a garage sale, so a great find!

Tape Road

Probably the most favorite activity of this class of fours is creating a tape road.

We simply stick masking tape to the carpet in a crazy path and let the kiddos race around it on cars.

They love to add stop and go signs by coloring a bit of the tape red or green. 

They also recently decided to add street names to various parts of the tape road.

When we're all done for the day, we pull up the tape and make several big sticky tape balls and the kiddos get to take those home.  They love it.

Learning Station - ABC Parking Lot

I created this at the beginning of the year.  I'm not sure if I already posted about it.  I pulled it out today for my fours to enjoy.  We haven't played it since the fall and it was great to see the progress they have made with letter recognition (yahoo!).

 The kiddos pull a letter from the bag, select a car and drive it into the parking lot and park it in the stall with the same letter.  Oodles of fun.

ABC Parking Lot

As we continue our week on "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" we practiced our letters today by parking cars:

I drew out a parking lot with the alphabet letters randomized.  The kiddos pulled a letter out of a sack, told me what it was and a word that began with that letter.  Then they could drive their car into the lot and park it on the correct letter.  Quite fun!

Block garage

I love wooden blocks.  I think they are one of the greatest toys and should be a basic unit in every preschool or home of a preschooler.  Today we were building block towers to knock over with the canon from the pirate ship.  Next the 3 year old kiddo I was playing with decided to create this garage for the cars.
