Ii Week

Welcome to Ii Week!

Insect Shirt - How cool that this kiddo wore his insect shirt on insect day!

Science - Insect Parts - We learned that insects have 3 body parts, 6 legs, 2 antennae and generally 2 eyes.  Then we used stamps to create our own insects.

Kiddo:  "Females are girls.  ...  Females eat males.  Those are boys."

Insect Necklaces - Now everyone has an insect buddy!  I hot glued a bead to the back of the critters.  Super glue might be a better choice.

Backyard - Shaving Cream - What fun!

Insect Hunt - We were looking ALL OVER for insects to catch with our cool catchers, but we only found a few teeny ants!

Leaf Bug - When my daughter came home from school, she had a wonderful insect for us to observe!  She found him on her way home.  So cool!

Ii is for Insect - Youngsters - These kiddos also learned the proper body parts for insects, then they made a mostly anatomically correct insect.

Initial - Decorating - We learned that initial means first, so we decorated the first letter of our names.

Science - Ice Cream Making - Oh, we've been waiting all week for this yummy experiment!

After snack, we measured out the ingredients then we put ice and rock salt in a bigger bag.

Then we went in the backyard and shook them and ran with them and danced with them...Finally they were firm enough to eat!  We added chocolate syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles!  Yum!  And yah for ice cream!

Shaken Ice Cream Recipe -

In a sandwich sized ziploc put:
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup half and half
1/8 cup of sugar
1/4 tsp. of vanilla

In a quart sized ziploc put:
ice
rock salt
the baggie with the ice cream ingredients

Make sure both baggies are sealed!  Then just run around and shake them like crazy!  The ice cream will get thicker and harder the more you shake it!  Yum!

Ii is for Ice Cream - Youngsters and Toddlers - This was a fun way to use up scraps and the littluns who LOVE to glue had a blast too!

Pumpkins and Blocks - Toddlers - The kiddos had fun "trick or treating" with blocks.

Free Play - Boxed Igloo - It's not quite cold enough for an igloo outside, so we played in a boxed igloo.
The kiddos had fun with it!

Science - Ice Melting - We thought we'd try our hand at melting ice.  We brainstormed some ideas, then tried a few of them out.  Someone suggested using warm water, another kiddo tried adding soap.
We decided to take the ice outside and see how it would hold up out there.

The kiddos picked a few spots to leave some ice.  Then we headed back inside for snack.

Backyard - We had to take advantage of the warm weather, so after snack, we hopped into the backyard for some fun.  We decided to bring our boxed igloos with us as well as the rest of the ice.

The kiddos had fun breaking apart our mini ice skating rink.

Melted Ice! - Yahoo!  When it was time to go home, we found that most of our ice had melted!
