This is our
last day of summer camp this week and studying
bugs and such.
Here are a few quick shots of what we worked on today...
Circle Time - Today's
drawing was a bit more interesting. After we read 'The Very Hungry
Caterpillar', we drew caterpillars (a bunch of circles) and butterflies
(a hotdog with wings). The kiddos did a great job drawing both. We also talked a bit about
camouflage and moths and discovered that butterflies also have
proboscis too!
Here is a drawing of a caterpillar by one of my threes. The circles are, of course, the caterpillar. The straight lines are grass.
Symmetry with butterfly wings - I love this classic project! The kiddos did a wonderful job with it today.
First the kiddos painted one half of their butterfly...
Secondly - once the kiddos finished, I helped them fold their butterfly in half and press and rub the paint around...
Finally we opened them up to reveal their beautiful butterfly!
Butterfly Rings -These turned out really cute. Using a heart punch we created butterflies by punching on the folded edge and making sure we hung the bottom part of the heart off the paper (if that makes any sense).
I thought the kiddos would enjoy decorating their butterflies, but they were just to excited to get their rings on and to flutter around the room. Ha!
We were using construction paper, so we glued 2 butterflies together (to make them a bit sturdier) and punched out the hotdog shape for the center of our butterfly. Then I taped a strip of paper to fit around their finger and they were off!
