The Great Outdoors! - Tp Campfires

Tp Campfires and S'mores (of sorts) -  Oh what yummy fun!   I filled the kiddos up on marshmallows today!

First the kiddos made their fabulous tp campfires.  We painted our tp rolls with brown and gray paint yesterday.  I hot glued the tp rolls in a fire shape on a paper plate.  The kiddos added the flames.

Here is my goofy looking campfire made with paper towel rolls.  We're going to sit around this as a class tomorrow.  Perhaps tell a few stories, sing a song or two.  "Roast" some s'mores.  I think I'll have my hubby set up our little pup tent in the preschool.

 After the kiddos finished their fire, they got to "roast" a marshmallow or two (or three or four).  Here is the set up.

Favorite Books - Elephant and Piggie

I have been toying with the idea of doing a whole week on one of the kiddo's favorite books from preschool - but which one?  Then inspiration hit ... AHA!  I'll do a different book each day!

Today we enjoyed Elephant and Piggie books.  These are the best!  I LOVE this author!  I currently only have 3 of his E and P books, but I'll be getting more for the preschool!




For our Elephant and Piggie day we made these puppets so the kiddos could act out the stories.  The kiddos LOVE to take turns reading for the characters of these books.

We painted 2 regular sized paper plates gray for Elephant and 2 small paper plates for Piggie.  Here is how I cut the second paper plate to create Elephant's ears and trunk.

 Elephant's trunk is curled up and Piggie's nose is glued over his smile, but you get the idea.

We also made tp roll Elephant and Piggies...

When we were painting for the paper plate project above we also painted tp rolls.  I had the kiddos paint an extra small paper plate gray.  We used it to cut out the ears and trunk. 

 

 Really simple, but cute and quick and easy to put together.

Dinosaurs - Tp dinosaur bones

I saw this fabulous idea on this blog, and had to try it out!

This is all the farther we got with them today.  I made the shapes this morning (below).

 Then the kiddos helped me mix:
1 cup flour
1 cup water
a squirt of Elmer's glue

We dipped strips of newspaper in the stuff and wrapped them around our bones.

When they are all dried, we paint our dinosaur bones...

Here are the painted bones from my threes.  They of course did not want to paint them white or brown!  Ha!

Ocean - tp roll octopus

For a quick ocean craft today, the kiddos each made a tp octopus.

Earlier in the class day, a few of the kiddos painted the tubes.  Then after snack we worked on them.

The kiddos (my fours) snipped the bottom of the tp roll to create the arms for their octopus.  We tried to keep it to just 8 arms.

Then they glued on googley eyes and were done.  Well, a few kiddos added a smile.

Super cute and quick.

Chinese New Year - Coiled Snakes

 Today we made these cute coiled snakes using tp rolls.

I found the idea here.
















 Here's what you need:

• 3 cardboard tubes
• googly eyes
• White craft glue or hot glue.
• Scissors
• Acrylic craft paint in colors of your choice

Instructions

1. Paint the outside of the cardboard tubes (you can do insides too, if you want, I didn't).
2. Cut the tubes into coils.
3. Glue on goggly eyes and tongue.  Easy-peasy!

Superhero Week - Hero Cuffs

Hero cuffs are a must for any superhero costume!  I found this idea at this blog.
I love any craft that uses tp rolls and turns out cute!  Ha ha!  This is one of those!

Here's the prep:
I cut and painted all the tp rolls over the weekend so they would be ready for the kiddos this morning.

 

I found that as the tp rolls were drying they began to open up wider and wider.  So I clipped each roll like this and let them finish drying this way.  That kept them closed nicely (like above).




After Christmas I found a bucket of foam star stickers from Hanukkah on clearance.  This is what the kiddos used to decorate their hero cuffs with. 

The stars also worked great as super power rings.  (below left)

 

Tp Snowmen

The kiddos painted the Tp rolls last class.

I cut out the face pieces and  then had the kiddos glue them on.

I thought they turned out super cute!

They were also fun to stack!
