A Week on Dinosaurs

Dinosaur Invasion - There were dinosaurs all over the preschool!  The kiddos were glad to see them at the journal table...  There was a lot of growling and stomping and roaring.

Dinosaur Bone Bread Sticks - The kiddos worked the dough and created lovely bone to munch for snack.

Dinosaur Tooth Necklace - Using clay, we fashioned dinosaur teeth.  Once they're dry we made our necklaces.

T-Rex Footprint - A T-Rex left his foot print in our preschool!  Holy Cow!  Look how big it is!
This kiddo was super excited about the large dino foot and asked if he could have slightly smaller feet that he could tape to his shoes.  Of course!

Dinosaur Mat - I made this a year or so ago.  Great for dino play!

Volcanoes - Youngsters - We looked through a book about volcanoes and talked about what they are.  Then we created our own.

Sensory - Grass - We've been growing this grass for quite a while, finally it is dinosaur week and we get to set them loose in the jungle.....

Fossil Cookies - We were so excited to make fossilized dinosaur footprint cookies.  First we carefully chose our dinosaurs, washed their feet and our hands.  Made the cookie dough, the dinos helped.

Rolled out the cookies and strolled our dinos through the dough...

Patiently ate snack with our dinos while our cookies baked.
 Yum! They're done!

Dinosaur Eggs - Ms. Sara "found" these fossilized dinosaur eggs, so we cracked them open!  We found baby dinosaurs!

I use the recipe found on Projects for Preschoolers:  Source

Our last day with dinosaurs, we learned about volcanoes!

Journal Time - Volcanoes - The kiddos drew a volcano in their journal while we watched a few explosions.  We pulled out the globe so we could find where each of the volcanoes were located.

Textured Volcanoes - We've been working on these for a week!  The kiddos were super excited to add their explosions.  We started these last week by creating our volcano from tissue paper and watered down glue, to give it texture.  It dried over the weekend, then we've been painting a bit each day.

I saw this great idea here:  source.

Baking Soda Volcanoes - Finally!  The kiddos have been waiting all week for this.  First they shaped a volcano out of wet baking soda.  We had earlier discussed the three kinds of volcanoes.  (Shield, cone, and composite).
