This week we are learning about Chinese New Year. This year the lunar new year begins on Sunday, February 10. This new year will be the year of the snake.
To begin our discussion, I pulled out a few items...
A paper fan. The kiddos were fascinated by the way the fan opened and closed. This little guys spent quite some time carefully opening and closing the fan. Watching it's moving parts and the way it folds in on itself.
The globe. If we're going to talk about China, we best be able to find it on a globe. Of course this kiddo isn't pointing at China, but at home.
A snake. Since it will be the year of the snake, I found this cute snake at Ikea for 50 cents. This little snake decided to play pirates with us after circle time.
Fortune cookies. You've got to have fortune cookies if you're going to talk about China. I found a big bag of these at our Oriental Market in town for $3.
